| Women's Programs
The Toronto City Mission's women's programs have been designed
to provide support, encouragement, mentorship and hope to inner-city women who often struggle.
Bible studies, mentoring, community prayer partnering, walk-fit,
crafts, summer day trips, friendship outings, and support group
gatherings comprise the bulk of activities. However, what makes
the programs truly effective is the deep relationship building
that occurs between those being helped and community
missionaries and volunteers. Because staff live in the
communities in which they serve, they are quite frequently
approached by single mothers and other women in the community at
all hours of the day with crisis situations or simply needing
someone with whom they can talk. The result of needs being met
through the Toronto City Mission and others is that hope and
encouragement is given, women are reaching out and making a
difference in their communities, and with time, transformation occurs.

Role Model Moms
The main goal of the Role Model Moms
program is to equip single moms, who are at least 18 years old
and have not completed their high school education, with the
academic knowledge, confidence, and life skills necessary to
successfully pass the high school equivalency exam regulated by
the government of Ontario.
It is our hope that by attaining a high school equivalency
diploma, moms will have improved opportunities of employment
that will better meet their family’s needs.
The program is also designed to
develop the confidence of each participant as well as the life
skills of time management, daily disciplines, and communication
through coaching and support. Increased capacity in these areas
would translate into increased capabilities to negotiate the
demands of raising a family.

Employment Mentoring
The goal of our employment
mentoring program is to provide under-employed newcomers with
appropriate skills and knowledge to position themselves to
pursue employment more consistent with their training and
abilities. Through small group cohort learning participants
learn about the Canadian culture, developing their own stories,
using them as building blocks for developing resumes and
interview preparedness. Confidence is gained through practical
exercises such as mock interviews, cold calling, and group
presentations and interaction.
The group has grown and it is encouraging to see that
members from the former classes are now coming back to help their
counterparts. We also help with conversational language skills
frequently by discussing current issues within a biblical
context. We are delighted to see this program growing.
With gainful employment and encouragement the
participants will improve their lifestyle and grow in self
esteem.
