Childrens Choir
The Training Choir
(ages 5 - 12) is an upbeat, exciting opportunity for children in
Malvern. The children are taught a variety of traditional, international and contemporary music in a well choreographed program. Through this program children obtain self-esteem, are taught to be part of a community and team, develop new skills and an appreciation for music.

Tutoring/Academic Support
In developing relationships with the communities we serve, it has become evident that academic support is truly needed. Many of the parents living in these communities experience language barriers that hinder them from helping their children with homework and understanding concepts. Others have a very basic level of education, some illiterate, and cannot assist their child. Still others are lack the motivation to help their children with their school work. However, addressing the academic poverty in the lives of these children is a priority if they are to rise above, break cycles of poverty and undergo transformation.
The tutoring program links qualified volunteers with needy children and families. A community missionary interviews families to assess needs. Our volunteers are thoroughly screened, providing for the safety of the children and their families as well as to determine the volunteer tutor's interests and skills. Based on these interviews, the Toronto City Mission links a child and a volunteer together, providing adequate training and tools for the volunteer tutor. The result is enhanced learning, identification of needs and a step towards building a community of hope!

Kids Club
In the communities of Bridletowne, St. James Town, and Willowtree, there are subsidized after-school programs (provided through the City of Toronto) available for area children and there is a waiting list. These program spots have been completely filled and the demand for such programming has exceeded the supply. Close to 740 elementary-aged children have been placed on waiting lists for after-school programs. Because they have no where else to go, many of these children will turn to the streets for entertainment and, in high population, low-income communities, many will be exposed and "sucked" into a culture of crime and drugs.
To fill this great need, the Toronto City Mission provides the Kids Club program to children and families living in these communities. Kids Club is an after school program designed to keep children (in grades 1-5) off the streets and engaged in positive activities. Activities include games, sports, stories, Bible teachings and crafts. Children also receive homework tutorials to encourage them in their academic study.
