Adopt-a-Family
TCM's Adopt-a-Family program assists those at-risk families, who are participating in our programs, to have a brighter Christmas. Community Workers from our sites - Malvern, St. James Town, Bridletowne, Willowtree, and our newest site at Jane/Finch - assess these families to ensure that they qualify for the program.

Sponsors participate in one of two ways:
     (a) by providing funds to sponsor a specific family from our list of registered families
     (b) a donation in the $ amount of their choice.

If the Sponsor chooses to adopt a family they select the size of the family. Families range in size from 1 to 7. The cost of the program is $70.00 per person per family. The $70.00 includes a $30.00 gift certificate to the store of choice, a $25.00 food voucher and the remaining $15.00 is applied to the costs of the Christmas celebration dinner in their area. For example, to sponsor a family of 1 adult and 3 children it would cost $280.00

Our experience has been that the certificate program allows families equity in the community as well as the opportunity to select an item(s) that the family member wants or needs. All gift certificates will be purchased by Toronto City Mission.

Sponsors may elect to provide a gift bag for their family and details of the contents and size of the bag can be provided if you email sdelaney@torontocitymission.com.

Christmas Celebrations
An important part of our year-round programming is our Christmas celebrations. During the Christmas season programs are held at all of our locations - St. James Town, Willowtree, Bridletowne and Malvern. At the celebrations, families are served a turkey dinner, participate in Christ-centered Christmas programs and all children receive a small Christmas gift bag of food and/or toys. In total more that 500 people participated in this annual event of sharing love, meeting needs and celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour.

Community Festivals
Toronto City Mission community festivals typically occur during the late spring or summer months. Music, games, prizes, food and more comprise the activities. During these festivals friendships are developed or strengthened, a sense of belonging is created, awareness of programs made available to community residents is generated, and fun is had by all.

Family Celebrations
Family Celebrations vary according to the location. In one community, bi-monthly pot-luck dinners bring the community together, in other communities family celebrations consist of one-on-one gatherings between the community missionary and the family.
