Kids in Community (KIC)
The hours between the end of the school day and the time parents get home from work are a period when children are more susceptible to the negative influences of peers and gangs. To fill this great need, Toronto City Mission provides the KIC program to children and families living in high priority communities. KIC is an after school program designed to keep children (in grades 1-6) off the streets and engaged in positive activities. Paying for expensive after school programs and extra-curricular activities is not affordable for the families we serve. Our program allows parents to work without having the stress of wondering if their children are involved in gangs, drugs, schoolyard bullying, etc. KIC activities include games, sports, snacks, stories, Bible teachings and crafts. Children also receive homework help to encourage them in their academic study.
