The Toronto City Mission's women's programs have been designed to provide support, encouragement, mentorship and hope to inner-city women who often struggle. Aerobic exercise, crafts, art therapy, cooking classes, discussion groups and support group gatherings comprise the bulk of activities. However, what makes the programs truly effective is the deep relationship building that occurs between those being helped and community missionaries and volunteers. Because staff live in the communities in which they serve, they are quite frequently approached by single mothers and other women in the community at all hours of the day with crisis situations or simply needing someone with whom they can talk. The result of needs being met through the Toronto City Mission and others is that hope and encouragement is given, healthy relationships with children are developed and, with time, transformation occurs.
