Karen Hirji
Karen has always been passionate about children and families. So when she learned about the opportunity to serve with TCM, she felt it was the right fit. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Studies and a Master’s degree in Theology. Karen loves serving at her church and hanging out with her friends.
Karen hopes for people to know that there is a God who created them and loves them and that they can have full potential in Him.

The past 6 months have been some of the most interesting moments in my ministry career. In late 2023. I felt like the Lord was calling me to take a leap of faith. I didn’t fully understand what God was calling me to because my ministry at Jesse Ketchum had been going extremely well. We were hitting our capacity numbers and I was becoming comfortable with my role as an OW, the children, and their parents.
God is doing a new thing. I am both challenged and encouraged by this statement because I am a creature of habit. In the times when I ask the Lord for something or ask Him to change a situation, I find that when that change comes, I still grieve the loss of the former things.
As I walk into 2024, I continue to think about the journey we all are on as we follow Him. Through much reflection, I’ve come to realize that our only destination on this journey is when we get to be with Jesus in eternity. Every other “destination-like” milestone is just a pit stop along the way.
After completing my first full year of KIC, EPIC, and Sonshine Day Camp, I look back with overflowing gratitude. Before onboarding the TCM team, I wasn’t sure how everything would pan out. Jesse Ketchum was a new site, I was a new staff member, I would be working with an entirely new team, and doing my first ministry job. However, in all of this, I have seen how God works in the journey.
As 2022 ended, I reflected upon all the incredible things God showed me in the past year. I learned that Sonshine Day Camp is my absolute favourite season, He reminded me that I love teaching the kids the Bible, and He even pointed out that I need to be better in the kitchen through our cooking activities.
I was listening to a podcast earlier this season that spoke on the story of Peter walking on water. The host suggested that when Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, he may have tried to rely on his own strength to save himself instead of trusting Jesus to keep him afloat, suggesting that we start to sink the moment we try to fix our problems and neglect Jesus, the one we are to trust.
