A Third with Firsts and Thirst

This summer is now my third internship with TCM! I worked two summers at Orton Park, and this summer I made the transition into an office intern. It has been an interesting experience, full of learning and seeing more into how God has been working through TCM.

With a change in roles and new responsibilities, I can say that this summer has been different from the rest. I went from having to interact and take care of kids every day to a more backseat role in the office. Personally, it was difficult for me during the internship training. Not being around other interns and staff, and just working on communication or admin tasks, felt drastically different from my previous experiences. It left me with a thirst, with a sense that something was lacking this summer.

Even though I mainly work at the office, I also have the opportunity to visit a site every week. After working at Orton Park, it had opened my eyes to see how God has been working in community. This summer, having the opportunity to visit two more communities has been more of a blessing. From only seeing these communities through photos and stories, I get to physically see them and be part of the experience.

During the summer, I started feeling very sick, and that came with lots of worries and struggles. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to get certain things done and do my job well while balancing things outside of work. I felt overwhelmed and stressed about all the things I had to do, and whether I would be able to handle everything. While working on one of the posts for the social media, I was reading what the kids were learning that week. They were learning about Moses and the ten plagues and how Moses had to follow God’s instructions to free the Israelites. The main takeaway of the story was to be faithful and trust God even when things don’t go your way.

‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the Lord.
— Isaiah 55:8

Seeing what the kids were learning reminded me of God’s promise and blessing at a time when I felt overwhelmed and full of doubt. Working at TCM has been fruitful and full of blessings, and this summer is no different. Though my future may be filled with doubts and uncertainty, I know God has a plan for me and He cares for me.
