Living Proof of a Loving God

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
— John 15:12

As a returning intern, I’ve mainly focused on strengthening the relationships I’ve already built with the kids before this summer. Last summer, I had grown so much in my faith in such a short time. So much so that I came back for a second summer to see how God uses me this year. Understanding that Sonshine Day Camp may be the only opportunity for some of these kids to be surrounded by followers of Christ, my main goal was to share the love and wisdom of God while displaying the fruits of the Spirit. Showing up and doing this gave me an incomparable feeling of fulfillment, knowing that many of the kids relied on us to teach the Bible lessons and answer whatever questions they had about God. I feel so incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to support the kids in their own personal walks with God.

One of the most amazing things I’ve seen as a returning intern is witnessing the growth in children within a year and their efforts to get to know God. Some of the kids who used to be so unengaged throughout Bible lessons are now the ones asking the most questions or sharing the most in our discussions. Hearing about and seeing how many of the kids invite God into their days out of their own choice is such a beautiful and rewarding blessing. It allows us interns to see the impact and influence we leave on the kids, despite only being with them for a short period of time. Seeing the curiosity grow amongst the children in starting their own personal walks with God demonstrates how alive and present He is at camp and how He’s continuously working throughout my fellow interns and I.
