2025 Summer Interns

June 9, 2025 - August 15, 2025

The Summer Intern team will participate in training, camp preparation, and community outreach and service projects during the first three weeks of their program. They will then serve as staff members in existing programs for kids, teens, and parents impacted by poverty.

Under the direction of Outreach Workers, the Summer Interns attend training sessions and work together with volunteers at day camp to provide a caring, loving, safe, and fun environment, in which they will share the love of God in word and deed with the campers in their care.

Summer interns have also committed to raising a minimum of $1000 each to help with the cost of providing camp for free to children impacted by poverty.

  • I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp this summer. It is important to me that families impacted by poverty get all the support this program can offer and that our efforts become a beacon of God’s love during times of struggle. I’m excited to use my creativity to share the bible’s teachings and display my passion for following Christ.

My hope is to build a safe, supportive community while deepening my faith with like-minded Christians and sharing God’s word with the local families in Toronto.

Deborah Kalistan | Jesse-Ketchum

  • Hi my name is Deborah and God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp this summer, where I can use my gifts in worship, storytelling, and relationship building to share the Gospel with children. I have a deep passion for reaching kids from all backgrounds, helping them build a strong foundation and showing them the love and hope found in Christ. I hope to form meaningful connections with campers and staff that reflect God’s love and truth.

My hope is that the children encounter Jesus personally and that I grow in my own faith throughout this summer.

Ethan Castro | Jesse-Ketchum

  • God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp for another summer. Through this opportunity, I can continue to serve and give back to the community which has given me so much through teaching children about God and His love. I wish to continue to be of service to the children and families who have been impacted by poverty. Through this internship, I can use my experience and giftings to help run programs while ensuring a safe and enjoyable camp experience for both the children and my fellow staff.

My hope is that the children of Toronto will experience the love of Christ through my words and actions, while gaining valuable work experience as I help to lead the Jesse-Ketchum community.

  • I’m incredibly excited to be serving as an intern at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer. It’s such a blessing to have the opportunity to share the Gospel with children and teens, and walk alongside them as they grow in their faith. Helping children get closer to God and witnessing the joy from discovering His love is truly fulfilling. I’m grateful for what God is doing and can’t wait to see how He will work this summer.

My hope is that the children I get to spend time with this summer get to experience the beauty of our faith as I act as a living proof of our loving God.

  • I'm incredibly grateful to be returning to Toronto City Mission for my third summer. Each year, God has continued to reveal His heart for this city through the children and families we serve. I truly felt led to come back again—this place feels like home, and the work we do here continues to shape my faith and purpose. I'm excited to be part of what God is doing in our communities and to grow alongside the amazing team here.

My hope is to be a consistent light and source of encouragement to everyone I encounter this summer.

Jonathan Law | Office

  • After being a summer day camp intern for two summers, God has provided me an opportunity to work at the office this summer. I have the privilege to work with TCM again while serving in a role more related to my studies in Communications. While I’m not officially an intern at one of the sites, I strive to build connections whether it would be with kids during site visits or with TCM supporters.

My hope is that I will be able to share God’s stories and love through the opportunity I have this summer.

Josiah Adderley | Orton Park

  • God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp this summer. This opportunity allows me to use my passion for sports and drama to share the Gospel with children in the community. I plan to connect with children by means of common interest, building bonds that could be the start of mentorship.

My hope is that through seeing me learn and grow as a leader, the campers will be inspired to take on leadership opportunities of their own.

Juhee Lee | Orton Park

  • Although I  joined as a summer intern a couple years ago out of a general love for serving and teaching children, my increased heart for the Great Commission and the Orton Park community is what brought me back this year. It will allow me to exemplify the joy and love I have found in Christ to those I interact with.

My hope is that the children at Orton Park will come to know God personally through my lessons and interactions, and that my supporters will be encouraged to join in God’s mission through my testimonies of my time at TCM.

Mikael Mendoza | Jesse-Ketchum

  • God called me to serve at TCM this summer. Long before I interviewed for this position, I knew this summer would be dedicated to God. I don’t believe it is an accident that the doors for this opportunity was opened for me. Using my gift to connect with others meaningfully, meeting them where they are, I stand firm with TCM’s goal to be a reflection of God’s love to families impacted by poverty. I’d like to provide the reassurance these children need in Christ even during uncertain times, having been in their shoes as well.

My hope is that my full effort in walking with God uplifts both the families I will be serving and my coworkers.

Naomi Mounteny | Don Valley Village

  • I’m passionate about sharing the Gospel with children and youth. I feel God has called me this summer to serve at the Sonshine Day Camp. As a long-time camp counselor and student in Education, I am excited to use my gifts to find fun ways to share about Jesus with kids! I am passionate about working within my own community, where I have seen a great need for support and connection. I pray that the camp environment and my involvement in it will show God’s love to families this summer.

My hope is that the children will feel God’s love through genuine connections with me and other staffs.

Ray Wen | Don Valley Village

  • God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer. This opportunity is important to me as it will allow me to share and display His love and the Gospel to the youth in Toronto. Through patience and care, I hope to be a blessing to children impacted by poverty so that they will grow in Christ.

My hope is that campers will not just read about what a Christian is supposed to be like, but see Christ working and displayed through me and my actions.

Simeon Hwang | Don Valley Village

  • Why is it important for me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp rather than any other day camp?

TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp is more than any typical day camp. It’s a camp that seeks to build relationships and spread the Gospel to children and families impacted by poverty. Serving as a summer intern for the first time last year, I’ve been blessed to not only witness how children had grown throughout the summer, but to hear how those who have come to the summer camp over the years have accepted Christ as their LORD and Saviour.

My hope is that in serving, I have an attitude that reflects Christ, such that I may be an ambassador for Him and spread the Gospel to the children I work with.

Tabitha Pathmanath | Orton Park

  • God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer.  I am excited to grow in my passion for relational outreach and connect with these children that have been impacted by poverty. This season, the Lord has been pruning and shaping me, drawing me closer to His heart. I feel called to reflect on His character in this ministry—one that resonates with my own story and testimony in a powerful way. I hope to build meaningful relationships with the children and teens by creating a safe space where they can be their authentic selves. I pray they will come to see their purpose and identity through the lens of Christ’s love and truth.

William Cheung | Jesse-Ketchum

  • God has opened up the opportunity for me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer. I am grateful to be a part of TCM because of their heart for families impacted by poverty and their desire to bring the light of the Gospel into their lives. I desire to exude my outgoing personality and Christ-like character to build relationships with the hope of engaging in faith-centred conversations.

I hope to grow in my care for those who are suffering, and see the transformative work of Christ in the lives of the children and parents.

Zayin Chicano | Orton Park

My hope is that God will use me mightily in this local ministry and that the children will experience God in a fun and meaningful way.
