Summer Internships

Summer Day Camp Intern

June 12, 2023 - August 18, 2023

The Summer Intern team will participate in training, camp preparation, and community outreach and service projects during the first three weeks of their program. They will then serve as staff members in existing programs for kids, teens, and parents impacted by poverty.

Under the direction of Outreach Workers, the Summer Interns attend training sessions and work together with volunteers at day camp to provide a caring, loving, safe, and fun environment, in which they will share the love of God in word and deed with the campers in their care.

Summer interns have also committed to raise a minimum of $1000 each to help with the cost of providing camp for free to children impacted by poverty.

Andrew Chan | Kingston-Galloway

  • I am glad to announce that I will be again joining Toronto City Mission as an intern making it my second year working with them. I had a great experience last year at Sonshine Day Camp creating meaningful relationships with the children as well as with my fellow interns! It was a joy being able to share the Gospel with the campers and seeing them enjoy the various activities that we planned throughout the summer. I am very delighted to be able to see how the kids have grown since last year and to be able to continue the relationships from last year to this summer.

My hope this summer is to continue creating meaningful relationships with the campers I met last year and to foster a purposeful environment with the staff I will be working with at Sonshine Day Camp.

Arielle Marcella | Flemingdon Park

  • God has called me back to serve at Flemingdon Park this summer at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp. The opportunity will allow me to grow in my love and passion for the children’s ministry through urban missions by making an impact and having a serving heart for children and families in the local community. Being a faith-based summer camp, Sonshine Day Camp is a stepping stone for the children and families to learn who Jesus Christ is, and although this is a short-term mission/internship, TCM creates long-lasting transformations that point to God’s love through the relationships made and hope restored regardless of the circumstances that are experienced.

My hope is to form a deeper connection with the families in Flemingdon Park while using my gifts and abilities to introduce God into their lives.

  • This summer, I've been called to serve at TCM's Sonshine Day Camp, not only to address material poverty but also spiritual poverty and trauma. Many of the children we will serve come from homes where emotional and spiritual needs are overlooked due to the daily struggle to make ends meet. I empathize with these children, having grown up in similar circumstances, and am grateful for the opportunity to use my gifts to run camp programs like Bible stories and worship, which demonstrate God's love and provide hope. My hope is that the children will experience Jesus' love through my words and actions, leaving a lasting impression on their souls that fosters a relationship with God and a path toward healing from their past traumas.

My hope is that the children will experience Jesus' love through my words and actions, leaving a lasting impression on their souls that fosters a relationship with God.

  • With God’s blessing, I am called to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer. I am taking this opportunity to really learn what it is to be an example of God’s love to these families impacted by poverty and to show that God is working in their lives. Through the gifts that God has given me, especially in art and music, I hope to create an experience that these kids will not forget.

My hope is to bring joy and laughter and a place that feels safe to grow emotionally and spiritually and creates an impact of who God is.

  • This summer God has blessed me with the opportunity to work with Toronto City Mission’s

Sonshine Day Camp at their Kingston-Galloway community. I am confident that God will use my creative skills to help lead the campers in their various activities and trips throughout the summer. As I lead bible lessons and worship, I trust that God will give me the words to say and the courage to speak boldly as I share the gospel.

My hope is that the campers will enjoy camp and encounter God’s love and grace during our time together this summer.

  • God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp this summer. Through this opportunity, I can serve and give back to my community which has given to me so much, as I teach children about God and His love. I wish to be of service to these children who have been impacted by poverty or are from low-income families. I will get to help run camp programs such as bible stories and worship while ensuring both an enjoyable and safe camp experience.

My hope is that the children of Toronto will experience the love of Christ through my words and deeds, while also gaining valuable work experience this summer.

Isaiah Anenih | Flemingdon Park

  • This summer I am proud to rejoin the Flemingdon Park community as an intern! I’m excited to go back and continue the work I started last year with the other interns and build upon that. I get to continue to build relationships with the kids that I connected with last year which I’m really excited to do because I feel like God has so more blessings in store for us as a group there at Flemingdon park. I’m also glad to be able to rejoin the almost same cast as last year and get another year of doing God's work together, as well as growing our faith together.

My hope again is that at the end of the summer, I have grown as a leader not only mentally but in Christ as well.

Jonathan Law | Kingston-Galloway

  • This summer I will be serving at TCM’s Sonshine Day Camp and I will be looking forward to being a light to the children around me. I have a desire to share the gospel with children who may not have heard anything about God or Jesus. Through this camp, I will show God’s love and use gifts such as worship or teaching.

My hope is that I will be able to show God’s love to those around me and that others will get to know God.

  • I initially joined TCM as a placement student at the beginning of 2023 and have made the decision to pursue a new role as a Summer Intern. This experience will allow me to continue exploring my passion for serving children and families impacted by poverty in East Scarborough. God has called me to use my gifts in leadership and coaching to guide and recognize the potential of the children at Sonshine Day Camp. I am committed to building intentional relationships, exemplifying Christ’s love for all, as a student of social work and advocate for social justice.

My hope is that the children, families, and community in East Scarborough can encounter God through Sonshine Day Camp.

Joseph Del Rosario | Jesse Ketchum

  • This summer, God has called me to serve at TCM’s Sonshine Day camp in the Jesse-Ketchum community. I love art and I hope that God will use my gift of creativity to engage the kids and in making their art their own, also make the lessons they’ve learned personal to them. I resonate with TCM’s heart for these children who have been impacted by poverty and by their mission to show God’s love through building personal relationships within the community.

My hope is that the children of Toronto will experience God’s love and will develop a desire to know and pursue Him personally.

Juhee Lee | Kingston-Galloway

  • I am very excited to serve with TCM's Sonshine Day Camp because it has a big impact on the children and builds long-term relationships with the families in the area. I will bring my gift of leadership and my passion for sharing God's love with children to my internship. My hope for myself is that I will have a greater understanding of evangelism and a bigger heart for the Kingston-Galloway community.

My hope for the children is that Sonshine Day Camp will be a safe and fun community for them and that they will have a greater desire to learn about who Jesus is.

Lily Song | Flemingdon Park

  • After doing a summer internship with Toronto City Mission during the summer of 2022, God has really opened my heart to the Flemingdon community. That summer experience has positively impacted my relationship with God as it was an experience that reminded me of how good God is. During the midst of my worries, anxieties, chaos, and sadness God graciously blessed me to witness His providence He had over me, the rest of the team, and the community of Flemingdon. I was able to learn how to build loving relationships with the children, youth, and their families which overall encouraged me to continue living missionally in Toronto. I want to return and continue serving the people God calls me to as His faithful obedient servant.

My hope is that I may be an imitator of Christ and give Him all the glory. I hope I will be able to develop good relationships and share the Gospel with the people in Flemingdon Park by God’s grace.

Luke Goh | Jesse-Ketchum

  • God has called me back this summer to serve as an intern at TCMs Sonshine Day Camp in Jesse Ketchum. God has blessed me with this opportunity to continue to grow the relationships that I have built with the students during the school year. I am so excited to share with them my love of sports and games while being an older Christian role-model that they can look up to.

My hope is that through my words and actions, they would see Christ’s character shown through Me.

Michelle Nakamura | Office Intern

  • I am filled with gratitude and joy for my first time as an office intern at TCM. I’m excited to discover how God will embrace and teach me in this journey while using my professional skills. There is a change that can be made from understanding, compassion and serving those in need as it has impacts on communities and directly on individuals. One of the things I’m looking forward to is being able to share how incredibly impactful the TCM mission is firsthand from volunteers.

My hope is to continue to love others the way God always loves us.

Minkyung Shin | Kingston-Galloway

  • I'm grateful to God for this amazing opportunity to intern at TCM's Sonshine Day camp. It's a dream come true, and I promise to give my all, physically and emotionally, to make the most of it. Discovering God in new ways fills me with joy and awe. I'm here to serve and support in any way I can. Guiding children with the Gospel and showing them God's love is a deep calling as God's child.

My greatest hope this summer is to experience and share God's love with the children in Toronto.
