Called For Such A Time As This
While reading a historical fiction The Queen's Cook by Tessa Afshar, about a young woman working in Queen Esther’s palace, a moment that truly stuck with me was when Esther speaks with the palace cook and physician about approaching someone in a position of high power. It was terrifying and nerve-racking, yet they still had to do it because they were positioned exactly where they needed to be. This reminded me of Mordecai's powerful words to Esther,
“Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape... and who knows but that you have come to your Royal position for such a time as this?””
Just like the palace staff who worked quietly behind the scenes, serving at camp has shown me that even hidden roles can carry eternal purpose. This summer stretched me in the best ways. I stepped outside my comfort zone by learning to use my loud voice, surviving Tree Top Trekking at heights that had me questioning every life choice, and building artistic setups for theme days.
Running small groups was not always easy. Getting everyone to settle down after Bible lessons required patience and perseverance. Through persistent prayer, trusting God, leaning on my supportive team, and changing our routines, things gradually shifted. Seeing the kids connect the dots during group reviews, hearing them excitedly call my name, and witnessing their spiritual growth made everything worthwhile. Even the hilarious camp moments, like kids constantly shouting random numbers such as “six seven”! Although the weeks were demanding, the relationships I built with the campers and my incredible team made every moment worth it.
I will truly miss this chapter of growth and memories. Proverbs 3:5-6 has been my anchor through it all.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. -Proverbs 3:5-6
Being here was no accident; it was a sacred privilege.
