Childlike Faith in Our Father
On the bus ride home from our field trip, after a couple of stops, the leaders realized that we were going in the wrong direction. With a little bit of panic in our eyes, we abruptly brought the campers off the bus and started our trek to the closest bus stop. The area was busy with lots of construction sites surrounding us, but the change in plans and overstimulating environment didn't seem to cause any stress for the kids. I looked at them, and they just kept casually following us.
“Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ”
These campers not worrying about how they're getting to the next destination beautifully illustrates a childlike faith, demonstrating simple step-by-step trust instead of obsessing over what will come next.
In my reflection on what childlike faith looks like, an image of my younger self next to the Father came to mind–me holding a big, strong, gentle hand above my head. There’s vulnerability in my stature, but there's great comfort and security in Him as I lean close to His side. I can look up and see His face, feeling warm and safe. A week later, one of our smallest boys walked up to my fellow intern to hold his hand. What a special moment it was to witness a silhouette of this image come to life, reminding me again that God is taking care of me.
How have I been learning what this childlike faith looks like? Humility. Admitting that I don’t know it all. Learning from the new, younger interns as a returning intern. Instead of worrying so much, enjoying God and His blessings. Our all-knowing God, who is worthy of our trust and obedience, is our Heavenly Father who walks by our side with compassion and protection.
