To Have Childlike Faith
As I wrap up my year-long internship and progress through summer, I am blessed to see the Lord encounter our campers in such real and unique ways. Through Bible stories, our children are sparked with curiosity that pushes them to seek God more. It is a blessing to see that our children don’t seek God because we make them, but because they truly want to in their hearts. A particular camper has touched my heart in her desire to know God in a deeper, more profound way.
Eva* had shared with me that she did not go to church on Sundays but wanted to know more about God through reading His Word. One day she had discovered a Bible lying around at camp. No one knows how she found that Bible, but once she did, she would not stop reading it. Through gym games, lunch, and craft, she just wouldn’t put it down. Her parents had shared with me that her curiosity sparked an interest for them to personally learn more about the Bible and support her through her journey. Eva* was able to remind her parents of the stories they had learned as children and became curious to revisit and read them.
In Matthew 18:2-4 it says, “He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
We at TCM are called to point the kids to Christ so that they can continue to grow in their faith. Because the Bible she was using was not hers, everyone on the team desired to give her one. And that week, God had revealed to one of our mission team members, who had an extra Bible, to give it to her. Eva* was so excited and could not contain her joy and gratitude. Not only was I able to see God work through her, but it reminded me of the importance of having a childlike faith. God reminds us through Scripture that the ultimate model of faith is to believe as a child does, with full obedience and trust that He is in control.
May we all continue to bear such childlike faith and curiosity.
