I Am Who God Says I Am

Growing up, I often found myself in my own bubble. Anxiety kept me in my comfort zone, and I’d rather choose silence over speaking up in a crowd. But being at TCM this summer has encouraged me to step out and let God work in and through me.

It’s been such a joy being around the kids. I’ve learned to grow in patience and love. Their bold and vibrant personalities have also inspired me. A kid once said to me, “Tabitha, you look nervous when you do Bible.” And as I thought about it, I couldn’t help but feel like Moses. He doubted himself, too, feeling unqualified to be a leader since he was slow of speech, yet God still called him to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. In fact, Moses had the unique privilege of speaking to God “face to face, as one speaks to a friend” (Exodus 33:11).

The Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land has felt like a reflection of my own spiritual walk. I’m learning to trust God in this wilderness season as He shapes me into the person He’s called me to be. Like Esther, who hesitated but still chose to speak up for her people. Like Daniel, who faced the lions with confidence in God. Like Joshua, who boldly stepped into the Promised Land. I’ve been learning that I, too, can walk in courage, not because of what I feel my past has restricted me from, but because of who God says I am.

A verse that has stayed close to my heart is Joshua 1:9:

“Be strong and courageous; do not be afraid, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

It reminds me to step out in faith and keep moving forward. My identity is not defined by my insecurities or by what I think I can’t do. It’s defined by who God says I am.

I am loved, I am chosen, I am a child of peace, I am brave, I am worthy.
