The Point of Hope: Following Jesus
My heart broke in 2023.
A fifth-grader confessed he felt “too dumb for school.” All the while, a third-grader shares her insecurity about not knowing how to read. It makes her dislike reading even more.
Although we are all created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), some children are unaware of their immense and inherent worth. This kind of hopeless narrative, which can paralyze anyone—especially children—is what TCM’s ministry exists to combat. Our mission is to change this soul-crushing narrative by providing them with hope through a tangible Gospel experience.
The Gospel
At TCM, our core mission is to point kids to Jesus. We don’t just teach Bible stories; we strive to show children what it feels like to be radically welcomed, consistently loved, and truly seen and heard. I hope that every interaction in our after-school programs, summer camps, and every trusting relationship we build intentionally creates a lifeline of hope in Christ.
Unshakable Faith
Our past curriculum themes, such as “Emotions in the Bible,” help kids navigate their emotions through the very human stories of biblical figures, including Jesus Himself. This year, as we focus on “Old Testament Leaders,” we’re exploring the beautiful truth that God is a promise-keeper and chooses to use anyone, despite their flaws. Through these stories, we show them that His faithfulness is the foundation of our hope.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
When a child understands that God has a specific plan for their life, they can overcome feelings of inadequacy and despair. They’ll be able to recognize their true value as children of God—having purpose and potential that surpass their difficult circumstances.
Our Mission
Our ultimate goal is to channel “God’s transformational power” to create loving relationships that instill hope in children and families affected by poverty, introducing them to the hope found only in Christ.
